Mahmoud Esmat, Egypt's Minister of Electricity and renewable energy, said that Egypt's renewable energy generation is expected to reach 12 gigawatts (GW) by 2026. The country also plans to install 3,500 megawatts (MW) of energy storage batteries to support renewable energy generation. 

Both national and international companies are developing solar and wind projects. Renewable energy generation is expected to increase to 20 gigawatts by 2029. In addition, Egypt's first nuclear power plant under construction in Dabaa is planned to generate 3,600 megawatts of electricity. 

By 2024, Egypt's solar, wind and hydropower projects will generate about 6,600 MW of electricity. The Egyptian government aims to increase the share of renewables in its energy mix to 42 percent by 2030 and 60 percent by 2040. 

Egypt has several large renewable energy projects. The Benban Solar Park in Aswan has a total installed capacity of 1.8 GW. The GabalEl-Zeit wind farm has a capacity of 580 MW. The Zaafarana wind farm has a capacity of 545 MW. 

In addition to large-scale projects, a number of smaller renewable energy schemes are also in the works. The new administrative capital has installed 20 megawatts of rooftop solar panels on government buildings. Several industrial zones, including 10 Ramadan, have introduced solar power systems to reduce energy costs. 

The Egyptian Ministry of Irrigation has launched solar water pumping stations for agriculture. More than 500 solar irrigation systems have been deployed in the provinces. The Cairo Metro has started using solar power in some stations. A pilot project has installed 300 kilowatts (kW) of solar panels at a station. There are plans to expand it to other locations. 

Alexandria has introduced solar street lights in public Spaces. The Alexandria Port Authority is testing solar solutions for port operations. Egypt continues to expand its renewable energy infrastructure. The government is working with private sector companies to develop solar, wind and energy storage projects.
