Last year, balcony photovoltaics became popular in Europe, especially in Germany. According to data released by BSW-Solar, the German solar industry association, by the end of 2024, Germany will have added 1.05 million photovoltaic systems, of which 435,000 are balcony photovoltaics. In other words, at least 2 out of every 5 photovoltaic systems are balcony photovoltaics. The installed capacity increased by 100%, far exceeding the growth rate of other photovoltaic types.

The reason for such rapid growth is due to the high electricity price pressure in Europe. Taking Germany as an example, the cost of residential electricity in the second half of 2023 will reach 0.4162 euros/kWh (including taxes and fees), ranking among the top in the European Union. In this context, the economic advantages of balcony photovoltaics are significant: a complete package of a basic system starts at only 600 euros (about 4,660 yuan), with a typical configuration of 2 500W components, an average daily power generation of 5 degrees and an annual power generation of 1,500 degrees. According to the cost of electricity per kilowatt-hour in Germany of about 42 euro cents (0.4162 euros), a set of balcony photovoltaics can save 228.91 euros a year, which means that it can basically pay back and make a profit within a few years. In addition, the extremely easy installation of balcony photovoltaics is also an important factor in its becoming a new favorite in the market.

Users only need to fix the photovoltaic modules on the balcony or terrace and connect the AC cable to the socket at home to easily turn on the green electricity mode. A typical balcony photovoltaic system usually consists of 1-4 photovoltaic modules, micro inverters, brackets and cables. It can be flexibly adapted to various building scenes such as apartments, villas, and self-built houses in rural areas, greatly expanding the application boundaries of clean energy. In China, balcony photovoltaics are still an emerging field. Through communication with dealers, anti-backflow problem is one of the key obstacles to its promotion and application. During the day with sufficient sunlight, when the household electricity load is low, excess electricity may flow back into the power grid, bringing safety and management problems. Affected by this, the current installation of balcony photovoltaics is mainly concentrated in commercial places such as shops and supermarkets along the street. These places have high electricity consumption during the day, and can absorb photovoltaic power in time to achieve local balance and effectively avoid the risk of reverse power transmission.

In addition, relevant domestic policies have not yet been established. Germany has implemented a fixed electricity price subsidy for balcony photovoltaics through the Renewable Energy Law, and France has introduced a "zero approval" policy to simplify the installation process. In contrast, my country urgently needs to establish a special support policy system. Although balcony photovoltaics have not yet been promoted on a large scale in China, according to the plan of the National Energy Administration, by 2025, the cumulative installed capacity of distributed photovoltaic power generation in my country will reach more than 100 million kilowatts, and balcony photovoltaics are expected to occupy an important share of it. According to data from the China Index Academy, there are more than 300 million units of urban residential buildings in my country. If the penetration rate of balcony photovoltaics reaches 10%, it will give rise to a trillion-level market size. At present, many real estate developers have begun to incorporate balcony photovoltaics into residential design plans, creating the concept of photovoltaic housing to attract more home buyers.
